Home and vehicle security advice

Hello, I thought it would be beneficial to share some home and vehicle security advice to prevent you from becoming a victim of this type of crime  -

Burglars often look for homes with windows or doors left open or with vulnerable features that they can exploit.

- Home security  πŸ‘πŸ”“

βœ…  - Please ensure your home is secure by locking your door and closing windows, even if you’re only going out for a few minutes

βœ… - Use indoor and outdoor lights on a timer or sensor to create the illusion of occupancy and visibility - Consider using timer switches for lights

βœ… - Install a burglar alarm system, security cameras, and/or access control systems to deter and warn potential thieves.

βœ…  - If you have gates securing your driveway area make sure you keep them closed and locked

βœ…  - Use window locks, door double or deadlocks, and mark valuables with a UV or indelible pen to make it harder for burglars to enter and steal your belongings.

βœ…  - Consider the use of sash jammers. This can add extra security to doors and windows

βœ…  - Have a protected location for post and parcels to avoid revealing your absence or attracting unwanted attention.

Vehicle security πŸš—πŸ”

βœ… - If you have a garage it is better to keep your car inside it, locked and secure.

βœ… - If required, consider getting a professionally fitted car alarm and/or immobiliser

βœ… - If you have to park your vehicle on your driveway or on the street, consider using additional security devices, make sure the area is well lit, ensure the vehicle is secure and that nothing of value is left in it – i.e. tools, laptops, money, route finder

βœ… - If you have parked on your driveway or outside your house, do not leave your car windows open

βœ… - Think about where you keep your car keys at home. Please ensure your home is secure by locking your door and closing windows.

βœ… - Do not leave vehicle keys in an area that is visible to a prospective thief.

βœ… - Have you heard the locking noise? Have the lights flashed? Don't assume your vehicle has locked when using a key fob. Pull the door handle to make sure

βœ… - If your car has a 'keyless' system, keep keys far away from the car to disrupt communication range. Keep the key in a Faraday wallet or pouch, consider using a steering wheel lock for extra protection

βœ… - If you have more than one vehicle, perhaps consider blocking the preferred target vehicle by parking the less desirable vehicle in front of it.
