OPERATION BORMUS

Overnight from 1st - 2nd May we took part in a planned operation to deter criminals from committing crime in Tamworth.

Tamworth officers were joined by colleagues from Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG), Roads Policing Unit, Armed Response, drone operators, dog support units and the Op Bormus team - a dedicated team to tackle vehicle crime.

The aim was to locate, apprehend and deter criminals from utilising the roads to commit vehicle thefts and burglaries.

Here's a quick review of what the team got up to:

  • A 62 year old male arrested for drink driving.
  • A 24 year old male arrested for drink driving.
  • One car seized for no insurance and the driver also found to be driving without a licence.
  • A prohibition notice given to an unroadworthy vehicle.
  • Several vehicle defect notices issued.
  • Numerous vehicle stops of vehicles deemed suspicious due to the time and location.
  • Numerous vehicle stops for manner of driving.
  • A pursuit with a car that failed to stop after being seen driving at extremely dangerous speeds. Due to officer and public safety we were unable to stop this car but we will follow it up with further enquiries.
  • This operation runs elsewhere within the county too but we plan to have many more here in Tamworth.
