MAN CONVICTED OF CHILD SEXUAL OFFENCES

A man has been convicted of 11 counts of child sexual offences in Staffordshire.

Stephen Sterry, 63, of Imingham, East Lincolnshire, was found guilty by a jury following a trial at Stafford Crown Court last week (Friday 7 March) of eleven counts of indecent assault of a girl.

The historic offences happened a number of years ago in Tamworth.

An investigation was launched into Sterry in 2019 after one of the survivors bravely came forward and told us what had happened.

We worked tirelessly to capture all of the evidence possible and to support the survivors during this time, eventually securing the charges against him and taking him to court.

Sterry has been remanded in custody ahead of his sentencing date at Stafford Crown Court on 9 June.

Sergeant Joanne Kirkland, the officer in the case, said: “I’d like to recognise the immeasurable bravery of the survivors in this case in coming forward and helping us to build the evidence needed to bring another child sexual offender to justice in Staffordshire.

“No matter how recent or long ago the offences may have been, I want survivors to know that we’re here for you. We’re determined to secure the toughest possible punishment against those responsible for these crimes and to support you as much as possible.”

If you’re a survivor and you feel ready to talk to us, call 101 or use Live Chat on our website.
