HOME SECURITY WHILST ON HOLIDAY

When going on holiday, it's important to take steps to secure your home. Here are some tips to ensure your home stays safe while you're away:

  • Install Smart Security Systems: Consider a smart security system with cameras, alarms, and motion sensors that can be monitored remotely via your phone. You can also install doorbell cameras like Ring or Nest.
  • Use Timers for Lights: Set timers to turn your lights on and off at certain intervals to mimic your normal routine, making it look like someone is home.
  • Ask a Neighbor or Friend for Help: Arrange for a trusted neighbor or friend to check on your house occasionally, collect your mail, and ensure everything is secure.
  • Lock All Doors and Windows: Double-check that all entry points are locked before leaving. Don't forget the garage and side gates.
  • Keep Valuables Out of Sight: Avoid leaving expensive items (electronics, jewelry, etc.) in plain sight where burglars could spot them from outside.
  • Avoid Social Media Posts: Wait until you're back to post about your trip on social media. Announcing you're on holiday while you're away could attract unwanted attention.
  • Unplug Electronics: Unplugging devices like TVs, computers, and small appliances not only prevents damage from power surges but also saves on energy.
  • Notify Your Security Company: If you have a security company, let them know you'll be away so they can keep an extra watchful eye on your property.
  • Install Motion-Sensor Lights: These lights will help deter intruders by making it harder for them to approach your home unnoticed.
  • Consider a Security Safe: If you have important documents or valuable items, place them in a fireproof safe that’s difficult to remove.
  • By taking these precautions, you can relax and enjoy your holiday knowing your home is secure.
