Three arrested after stolen car stopped

We have arrested three people following a car theft and a number of suspicious incidents in the Burton-on-Trent area today (Wednesday 18 June).

It happened shortly after 1am this morning. A group of suspects took a BMW 1 Series whilst it was parked on the forecourt of a petrol garage.

The stolen BMW was driven away in convoy with another car.

Local and specialist officers immediately deployed to the area and sighted the second car on the border with Derbyshire. Three people matching the description of the suspects were seen walking away from the car and were quickly stopped and arrested.

Officers seized the vehicle, finding it was using false plates having been stolen from the Walsall area.

Three men from Burton-on-Trent have been arrested and will be questioned in custody. A 24-year-old and an 18-year-old were arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft, while a 22-year-old was arrested on suspicion of attempted vehicle theft.

We’re determined to act robustly against those responsible for burglary, theft and robbery across Staffordshire.
