Man jailed following assault

A man has been jailed after he assaulted members of the public and police officers in Stoke-on-Trent.

Steven Lovatt, 54, of no fixed address, was sentenced to eight months behind bars at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre yesterday (Monday 14 July) after he pleaded guilty to two counts of assault by beating of an emergency worker, six counts of assault and possession of a controlled drug of class B.

Officers were called to a shop on London Road, Stoke, on Saturday 31 May following reports that Lovatt was throwing items around.

When he was approached, Lovatt assaulted a security guard before biting one of our officers and kicking another.

PC Naomi Owen, from our Stoke-on-Trent south local policing team, said: “Lovatt has come to our attention on numerous occasions, displaying violent and aggressive behaviour in public places across the south of the city.

“There is a clear pattern to his offending and I am glad he has now been jailed and I hope this sends a strong message that violent behaviour will not be tolerated on our streets.”
