Officers respond to fight in park where knife was recovered

We have spoken to a number of people involved in a fight in Lichfield yesterday (Wednesday 16 July) where a knife was recovered from a park.

At about 4.30pm, we started getting lots of reports of a fight happening in Beacon Park.

Officers went there quickly and spoke to people in the area to find out what happened. We understand a pre-arranged fight between two 15-year-old boys took place and was seen by a group of other people who knew them both.

At one stage, we believe a kitchen knife was given to one of the lads who was fighting by someone in the group. He didn’t use it and dropped it on the floor.

Both of the boys who were fighting suffered minor injuries.

With the help of park rangers, officers trawled the area and found the people we believe were involved, as well as the two lads who were fighting. The knife was also seized by officers from the area.

A number of people were interviewed in relation to the incident. Three boys from Lichfield, aged between 14 and 15, have been referred to youth offending services.

We’re continuing to carry out high visibility patrols across Lichfield as part of our #problemsolvingpolicing approach, making sure community concerns like knife crime and anti-social behaviour are tackled on a proactive basis.
