REPORTS OF ROGUE TRADERS |
||
We have received a number of reports across Stonydelph regarding unknown persons knocking at residents doors claiming their roof is in need of repair, giving quotes then drastically increasing the prices. It is suspected in one report that they may have actually caused the damage themselves. In most cases, they have been targeting elderly or vulnerable residents and the offenders have been described as having Irish accents.
Enquires are underway to identify those responsible. Meanwhile, you can stay one step ahead 👇
🚪 If someone knocks offering work: • Don’t agree to anything on the spot • Never hand over cash or go to the bank with them • Say “No thank you” and close the door
⚠️ Red flags to watch for: • No ID or paperwork • Pressure tactics like “your roof is unsafe” • Asking for large deposits • Refusing to leave when asked
✅ Safer steps: • Use trusted directories like Buy With Confidence • Ask family or neighbours for recommendations • Take your time — real professionals won’t rush you
