A man has been jailed after he was taken to court the day after committing a shoplifting in Leek.
Daniel Standell, 32, of Leek, appeared at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Thursday (9 October) after he was charged with five counts of theft from a shop, five counts of breaching a criminal behaviour order and one count of fraud by false representation. He admitted all of the offences and has been sentenced to 16 weeks behind bars, as well as being ordered to pay £154 in surcharge.
Standell was arrested on Wednesday (8 October) following a report of a theft at the Co-op. Officers responded quickly and found Standell.
As part of the investigation, he was also linked to a series of shoplifting offences in the area between 12 and 18 September. He also spent £83.90 on someone else’s credit card at a shop in the area on 5 October.
PC Naomi Kramarczyk, who leads on problem solving in the Moorlands, said: “We’re determined to take action against those repeatedly impacting on residents, businesses and visitors in the local community, and this is another example of that.
“We’re taking a problem-solving approach to local priorities across Staffordshire under our action fund initiative which has already seen a ten per cent reduction in overall crime in the hotspot areas we identified earlier this year.”
As part of our #problemsolvingpolicing patrols in Staffordshire, we’ve been able to reduce knife crime by 26 per cent, reduce serious violence by four per cent and carry out more than 160 stop and searches in towns and cities across the county.
