๐ Remember, Remember โ Stay Safe This 5th November! As Bonfire Night approaches, Staffordshire Police are reminding residents to celebrate safely, respectfully, and within the law. ๐ Firework Safety Tips - Only buy fireworks with the CE or UKCA safety mark.
- Keep fireworks in a closed metal box, and light them one at a time at armโs length using a taper.
- Never return to a lit firework, even if it hasnโt gone off.
- Keep a bucket of water or sand nearby for emergencies.
- Itโs illegal to Set off fireworks in the street, park, or any public place.
- Give or sell fireworks to anyone under 18.
- Set off fireworks between 11pm and 7am (midnight on Bonfire Night).
Bonfire Safety - Build bonfires well away from homes, fences, trees, and roads.
- Check for wildlife or hedgehogs before lighting.
- Never use petrol, paraffin, or aerosols to start a fire.
- Keep water nearby and make sure the fire is fully out before leaving.
Consequences of Misusing Fireworks ๐จ Misuse of fireworks can lead to: Fines up to ยฃ5,000 and/or six months in prison. An on-the-spot fine of ยฃ90 for using fireworks illegally. Seizure of fireworks by police. Possible criminal record for anti-social behaviour or endangerment. Respect Your Neighbours Let neighbours know if you plan to have fireworks โ especially if they have pets, small children, or vulnerable relatives. Keep noise to a minimum and follow local curfew times. Letโs make sure everyone enjoys Bonfire Night safely and responsibly.
