Vehicle defrosting thefts |
||
|
With the colder days of winter fast approaching, Staffordshire Police anticipate an increase in vehicle thefts while the owners are defrosting them. This is a trend that increases every winter, so below is a reminder of some basic steps that vehicle owners can take to reduce the likelihood of this occurring.
π Never leave your car unattended while itβs defrosting - Thieves can jump in and drive off in seconds.
π Keep keys with you - Even on your own driveway. Most winter thefts happen at home.
π Stay alert - If you spot someone acting suspiciously near parked cars, report it.
π± Use remote start wisely - Only if your vehicle stays locked and secure.
πͺ Consider alternatives - A windscreen cover or de-icer spray can save time and risk.
It is also worth noting, if vehicle owners leave their vehicles insecure while defrosting them, ad they get stolen, it is highly unlikely the insurance companies will pay out on a theft claim!
It is all about not making it easy for potential thieves, so lets all keep on top of these small steps and deter them before its too late.
As always, stay safe out there, and look out for each other this winter. | ||
