Driver jailed after ramming police vehicle and driving off |

|
A man has been jailed after he drove into a police vehicle before driving the wrong way down a one-way road in Stone. At around 6pm on Tuesday 19 August, officers from our major and organised proactive team stopped a Volkswagen Golf driven by Oliver Reice Jones, 26, from Newcastle-under-Lyme, on Redhill Road, Stone. When they tried to detain him, he drove into a police vehicle to escape, causing considerable damage to both vehicles. Jones was then seen driving the wrong way along Stone High Street, narrowly avoiding pedestrians and a bus. The Golf was later found abandoned nearby in Regent Street. Then, just before 12pm on Thursday 21 August, Jones was a passenger in black Land Rover Defender on a pub car park in Derby. The vehicle was monitored by officers as it travelled into Staffordshire and was stopped on the A50 in Stoke with support from our road crime team. Jones was then arrested. He was sentenced to one-year-and-three-months in jail at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Monday (3 November) after pleading guilty to driving a motor vehicle dangerously.
