BEWARE OF ROGUE TRADERS |
||
|
Good evening,
Today I have been in the village dealing with a resident that has sadly fallen victim to Rogue Traders.
What Are Rogue Traders? Rogue traders are individuals or groups who deliberately overcharge for poor-quality work, carry out unnecessary repairs, or take money upfront and never complete the job. They often target vulnerable people, such as the elderly, and use high-pressure tactics to gain trust.
How to Protect Yourself Against Rogue Traders If someone knocks on your door offering work, politely decline. Reputable traders rarely operate this way. Always ask for identification and verify it. Use official websites or trusted directories like Checkatrade or TrustMark. Never agree to work on the spot. Compare at least three quotes from different companies. Avoid paying large sums before work begins. Use staged payments or pay after completion. Ask friends, family, or your local council for recommended traders. If you suspect rogue traders, contact Trading Standards or Action Fraud (0300 123 2040). In emergencies, call 999.
Thank you, Chad Carrington
