When buying gifts this Christmas, please make sure they’re safe and legal. Some popular items can cause problems and even lead to trouble with the police. Avoid buying:
🚫 BB guns, airsoft guns, or toy guns that look real – These can be mistaken for real weapons.
🚫 Laser pens – Strong lasers can hurt people and may be illegal.
🚫 E-scooters – You can’t ride privately owned e-scooters on roads, pavements, or cycle paths.
🚫 Knives or sharp tools – Carrying these in public can lead to an offence.
🚫 Modified e-bikes or e-bikes for under 14s – It’s against the law for anyone under 14 to ride an e-bike, and modified ones can be dangerous and illegal for any age of rider. ⚠️ Parents – please note:
If your child uses these items illegally, you could be held responsible. This might mean: - Fines or penalties
- The item being taken away by police
- Possible criminal charges if someone gets hurt or a law is broken
