E scooters - know the law |
||
|
We are urging parents to THINK carefully before purchasing any e-scooters for children or young people this Christmas, and make sure they know the law on using them,before they buy.
Though it is legal to buy or sell an e- scooter, which is classed as a motorised vehicle in the UK, an e-scooter is not legally permitted to be used on public roads, pavements,cycle lanes or parks, unless it has been purchased as part of an approved trial or scheme.
A privately owned e-scooter can only be used on private land, providing the rider has the landowners permission.
If you ride a privately owned e-scooter in public, you face the risk of being fined, receive penalty points on any licence,as well as possible insurance issues. The e-scooter may also be seized. | ||
