As the Christmas holidays have now started for Schools and pupils please can parents or guardians be aware of Social Media guidelines and the age limits for Social Media sites; Snapchat is a age limit of 13 minimum in the UK. It is useful to remind children over the festive season the impact their actions can have on others as what goes on social media leaves a digital footprint. Advise guidelines:- - Privacy settings - setting parental controls - avoiding the use of public Wi-fi - being mindful of age limits as these are usually 13+ for most sites Parental Guidance & Habits:- - Talk openly: have regular conversations about online activities and feelings - Set rules: agree on rules for device use - Monitor Activity: be aware of apps used and who your children interact with Cyberbullying:- - Don't retaliate: don't reply to nasty messages, block and report them instead - Tell and adult: talk to a trusted adult, parent or grandparent/guardian/ (teacher when the schools re-open), if you are bullied or see harmful content. |
