Police are reminding drivers not to leave their vehicles unattended while defrosting, even for a short period of time.

An unlocked or running vehicle is an easy target for theft. Many vehicles are stolen in seconds when keys are left inside and the engine is running.

To help prevent vehicle theft, please remember to:

• Stay with your vehicle while it is running
• Never leave keys in the ignition
• Lock your vehicle if you step away, even briefly
• Use an ice scraper and de-icer before driving
• Use remote start only if the vehicle remains locked

If you’re not in the vehicle, it shouldn’t be running.
