🚨 Smart Alert – Suspicious Incident (Possible Scam)
Residents are advised to be vigilant following a suspicious incident reported on Stafford Road, Cannock on Saturday 10th January 2026.
An unknown individual attended the address of an elderly resident, claiming they had lost their bank card and asked for money. The person then returned requesting additional money for a taxi, stating their daughter had been involved in an accident and they needed to get to the hospital.
This behaviour is consistent with known doorstep scam tactics, where criminals use emotional stories to pressure residents into handing over cash.
Please remember:
- Do not give money or personal information to anyone you do not know. - Genuine emergencies will not be resolved by asking strangers for cash. - Do not feel pressured — it is okay to say no and close the door. - If you are unsure, speak to a trusted family member, neighbour, or friend.
If you experience or witness suspicious behaviour:
- Report it to the police by calling 101, or - Report online via the Staffordshire Police website. - In an emergency or if you feel in immediate danger, call 999.
Please share this information with neighbours, particularly elderly or vulnerable residents, to help keep our community safe. |
