We have relaunched our The Beat podcast for 2026, to highlight some of the work of our ongoing campaigns, including those related to domestic abuse and intrafamilial abuse. The most recent episode saw us interview Steve, not his real name, who self-referred to the behaviour change programme at New Era which supports people affected by domestic abuse. Steve details the types of behaviours he was displaying, and why he decided to make the referral to get help for himself, with the support of his partner and family. The podcast also details how people with any concerns relating to domestic abuse can get in touch with New Era and the types of services on offer to help people overcome these behaviours. In a previous episode, we speak to Susan, again not her real name, about the experience she had in discovering her family had been affected by intrafamilial abuse, and the challenges she overcame to bring the perpetrator to justice. We also hear from the officer in the case about her experience in building the case against the abuser and how it felt for her to see him handed a lengthy custodial sentence. The aim of the podcast is to encourage people to listen to the work we have been doing and gain a glimpse behind the scenes into how we work with victims, families and partner agencies, to help people get the best possible support and outcomes. Detective Chief Inspector Shelley Burns, of our public protection unit and who is our domestic abuse tactical lead, said: "I would encourage everyone to take a listen to the podcast episodes to learn more about our specialised teams, the work we do with other agencies and the support we offer to victims as they navigate what is often an intimidating legal process. “By shedding light on these cases, we hope to be able to encourage others to make reports of their experiences and also help officers share their stories of work that has had a lasting impact on them.” To find out more about The Beat podcast and to take a listen, visit: The Beat Podcast | Staffordshire Police. | ||
