It has been reported that THC vapes have been taken into and being used by young people in High schools in Burslem. These vapes are illegal in the UK and are very dangerous to the health of the user. Staffordshire Police have issued urgent warnings and taken enforcement action regarding the circulation of illegal, "laced" vapes containing substances like THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) or Spice (synthetic cannabinoids), which are being sold to teenagers in the county. Key Details and Incidents: Hospitalisations: Since the start of the 2025 autumn term, at least three young people in the Midlands required hospital treatment after using these vapes.Police Action & Arrests: Staffordshire Police have made arrests in connection with the supply of these dangerous, illegal, or "laced" vapes.Product Dangers: These substances can cause severe adverse effects, including seizures, breathing difficulties, loss of consciousness, high temperature, and vomiting.Illegal Sales: Trading Standards and Police have seized thousands of illegal, non-compliant vapes and illicit tobacco during raids across Staffordshire, including in Stafford, Lichfield, Cannock, Tamworth, and Staffordshire Moorlands.Targeted Demographic: The illegal vapes are often sold or offered to teenagers, sometimes via social media, and may be falsely labeled. Advice from Staffordshire Police: Parents & Teens: Advised never to share vapes and to avoid buying them from unverified sources or social media.Reporting: Anyone with information regarding the sale of illegal or laced vapes is urged to report it to Staffordshire Police by calling 101, via social media, or to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.Health Concerns: If a young person becomes ill after vaping, contact 111 or seek immediate medical attention. New Legislation: From 1 June 2025, it is illegal for businesses to sell or supply all single-use (disposable) vapes in the UK, a measure aimed at reducing the circulation of these dangerous products. |
