Cold Callers

Good Evening, 

Staffordshire Police have received a report this evening, with regards to a ‘Suspicious Cold Caller’ within the location of Clayton claiming to be working on behalf of ‘EE'.

Due to the increase of reported scams, Officers responded to the area and the suspicious person was located and spoken to.

Officers engaged with the person in question and were able to quickly confirm that they were legitimate, by speaking with the company direct, who confirmed the canvasser to be legit and that they currently have staff working within the ST5 area. 

We are aware that some resident have called EE direct and the reason that they could not provide canvassing within the area, is due to the company called ‘Money Expert’ are employed on behalf of EE.

These particular canvassers have an ID tag on them which should anyone answer their door to them, they can ring direct for confirmation - however if you are still unsure, simply state ‘no thank you’ or do not answer to them.

Always remember the STOP. CHAIN, CHECK rule:

STOP – If you are not expecting anybody and they don’t have an appointment, don’t let them in.
CHAIN- Use your door chain or bar before opening the door
CHECK – Ask to see ID and double check this

Should you not have a chain, utilize ring door bells, spy holes or windows if you are unsure, you are always within your rights to question the legitimacy of companies/unknown persons knocking on your property and if you are unsure do not engage.
