We are seeing an increase in children and young people becoming unwell after using vapes β including products containing THC and other harmful substances. Many of these vapes are unregulated, mislabelled, or counterfeit, and may contain dangerous chemicals that pose serious health risks.
π΄ Key Risks to Children & Young People- Serious illness such as breathing difficulties, vomiting, and loss of consciousness
- Hidden ingredients including THC, synthetic cannabinoids, or high nicotine levels
- Bright, attractive packaging designed to appeal to younger users
- Fake or counterfeit vapes that look legitimate but contain toxic substances
- Rapid development of addiction, especially in younger users
π‘ Warning Signs to Look Out For- Sudden or unexplained changes in behaviour
- Sweet, fruity, or chemical odours on clothing or in bedrooms
- Vape devices, pods, or brightly coloured cartridges hidden in bags or drawers
- Symptoms such as dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, or confusion
π΅ What Parents & Carers Can Do- Have open, calm conversations about the dangers of vaping
- Remind children that not all vapes are safe β especially unregulated or illegal ones
- Seek medical help immediately if a child becomes unwell after vaping
- Report any suspicious or underage vape sales
