Counterfeit currency

There has been a number of recent reports of counterfeit bank notes being used to try to purchase various items. Reports include persons trying to use the counterfeit notes in shops, pubs, and for private sales.

Please be vigilant when handling cash, make sure that you use a combination of “feel, look, and tilt” method on polymer notes, checking for for raised print, a clear window with a portrait and value, and holographic images that change with tilt(like the crown or numbers/£ symbols) 

Always compare with genuine notes if applicable.

You can also purchase counterfeit money detector pens and machines if required.

If you do become aware of the use of counterfeit money, or fall victim of this crime, then please report this to the Police or your bank.
