Horses on the road and how to react safely

🚗🐎 Drivers – Please Slow Down for Horses

As the weather improves, there is potential for more Horses to be out on our roads. Please remember that horses are easily frightened and riders are very vulnerable.

The UK Highway Code advises drivers to:

• Slow right down when approaching horses
• Pass at no more than 10 mph
• Leave at least 2 metres of space
• Do not sound your horn or rev your engine
• Be prepared to stop if the rider asks

A startled horse can cause a serious accident in seconds. A little patience from drivers makes a huge difference.
