Stay safe on our waterways |

The Neighbourhood Policing Team is reminding all residents and visitors to act responsibly and take extra care when spending time near canals and other potentially dangerous areas, especially as warmer weather encourages more people to head outdoors. Canals, waterways, construction sites, and isolated paths can pose serious risks, particularly when safety advice is ignored. Slips, falls, cold‑water shock, and hidden hazards can all lead to severe injury or worse.
We ask the community to: * Keep a safe distance from canal edges – surfaces can be slippery and unstable * Supervise children at all times near water * Do not jump, swim, or enter the canal under any circumstances * Avoid alcohol or reckless behaviour near waterways * Stay on well‑lit and designated paths, especially after dark * Report suspicious or dangerous activity to the police
We also remind pet owners to keep dogs under control and on leads near canals to prevent them entering the water or pulling owners in accidentally.
In an emergency: * Call 999 immediately if someone is in danger * Do not enter the water yourself — use life rings where available and wait for emergency services
Our priority is keeping everyone safe. By acting appropriately and looking out for one another, we can help prevent accidents and ensure shared spaces remain enjoyable for all. For non‑urgent concerns or to report ongoing issues, please contact **101** or speak with your local PCSO. | ||
