Advice for Dog Owners

Following a couple of reports of dogs being bitten by other dogs that are not on a leash, can I please offer the following advice:

Tips for controlling your dog
Don’t forget that your dog is an animal and communicates with body language. While they may be comfortable with you,
they could feel threatened by unfamiliar people or locations which can result in them showing aggression as a defence.
The vast majority of dog bites are from dogs that bite as a last resort, it is their final way of saying “leave me alone!”
Responsible Owners 
It is up to you as the owner to look out for your animal in stressful situations to prevent it biting someone. The law is very clear on that. If a dog you are responsible for is out of control and you allow it to bite someone, you commit an offence under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991. This can result in a fine and your dog being destroyed. When out walking your dog, please be aware of your surroundings and other dogs and people in the area, especially children. If your dog is not on a leash, then keep your eye on it and don't let it jump up at people. If there is livestock around, then please do keep your dog on a leash.
