House fire safety – help keep you and your family safe

Staffordshire Police would like to remind residents of the importance of fire safety in the home. Fires can start quickly and have devastating consequences, but many are preventable with simple steps.

✅ Fit and maintain smoke alarms
Ensure smoke alarms are fitted on every level of your home and test them weekly. Never remove the batteries.

🍳 Take care when cooking
Never leave cooking unattended, especially when using hot oil or grills. Keep tea towels, packaging and clothing away from heat sources.

🔌 Use electrics safely
Avoid overloading plug sockets and only use chargers and appliances that are in good condition. Switch appliances off when not in use where possible.

🕯️ Be cautious with candles and naked flames
Keep them away from curtains and furnishings and never leave them unattended.

🚪 Plan an escape route
Make sure everyone in your household knows how to get out safely in the event of a fire and keep exits clear at all times.
