Door Knocking - Utilities |
||
|
Stafford Borough Police have received report of a male working for EE, knocking at a residential property asking to enter the property to test broadband speeds and asking for the residents broadband password. The resident declined this and the person left the area.
I have made phone contact with EE/BT today to ask if they confirm they had staff working in the area and if this was usual practice. Without the staff ID number this was not able to be checked. EE/BT did confirm that broadband testing was part of their requirements, but they should not be asking for passwords.
If you are unsure about anyone posing to be from EE/BT I would encourage you to take note of their ID number and call their helpline on - 0800 321 999.
Lines are open: Monday to Friday, 8am to 9pm
