🚨 Community Guidance – Concern for a Neighbour’s Safety

Domestic abuse can happen behind closed doors, and as a community, we all have a role in helping to keep people safe.

You may sometimes hear shouting, screaming, or aggressive behaviour coming from a neighbouring property. It can be difficult to know when it’s your place to get involved — but if something doesn’t feel right, it’s important to trust your instincts.

When should you act?

✅ Call 999 immediately if:

You hear sounds of violence, threats, or someone in immediate danger

You believe a crime is taking place

You are concerned that someone could be seriously hurt

✅ Contact police on 101 if:

You regularly hear ongoing disturbances that cause concern

There is repeated shouting, intimidation, or suspected controlling behaviour

You want to report concerns without immediate danger

Remember:

You are not expected to intervene directly or put yourself at risk

Reporting concerns could help protect someone who may be too frightened to ask for help

You won’t be wasting police time — it’s always better to report a genuine concern

Domestic abuse thrives in silence. By speaking up, you could make a real difference.
