🚨 SMART ALERT | Illegal Electric Bikes Seized – Falcon Close, Cannock 🚨
Officers responded today to reports of nuisance riding involving electric bikes in the Falcon Close area of Cannock.
Following enquiries, officers seized three Sur-Ron electric bikes. These bikes are often capable of speeds and power outputs that exceed the legal limits for electrically assisted pedal cycles (EAPCs) and may be classed as motor vehicles when used on public roads or public land.
A reminder of the law:
• To be ridden legally as an e-bike in the UK, a cycle must have working pedals. • The motor must have a maximum continuous rated power output of 250 watts. • Electrical assistance must cut off at 15.5mph (25km/h).
If an electric bike does not meet these requirements, it may be classed as a moped or motorcycle. This means it must be registered, taxed, insured and ridden by a licensed rider wearing an approved helmet. Failure to comply may result in the vehicle being seized by police.
We continue to act on reports of anti-social behaviour and nuisance riding. If you witness illegal use of electric bikes or off road bikes in your area, please report it through the appropriate police reporting channels of 101 or via Staffordshire Police website or 999 in an emergency.
Thank you for your continued support.
Kind regards,
Cannock Neighbourhood Policing Team |
