SMART ALERT: Beware of Cold Callers and Rogue Traders in WildwoodResidents are being advised to remain vigilant following reports of suspected rogue traders operating in the Wildwood area. Staffordshire Police have received information that two males have been going door-to-door offering roofing work. It has been reported that they initially quote a very low price for repairs, but once work has begun, they demand significantly higher sums, potentially running into thousands of pounds. Cold callers may use pressure tactics, claim urgent repairs are needed, or suggest your property is unsafe in order to encourage quick decisions. How to Protect Yourself✅ Do not feel pressured into agreeing to work on the spot. ✅ Always obtain at least three written quotes from reputable, established businesses before committing to any work. ✅ Check credentials and references of any trader offering services. ✅ Be wary of anyone claiming urgent repairs are required, particularly if they have identified issues from ground level. ✅ Never hand over cash upfront or pay for work before it has been completed to your satisfaction. ✅ Ask traders to leave details and discuss any proposed work with a trusted family member, friend or neighbour. ✅ Use a door chain or video doorbell where possible and keep your front door secure while speaking to unknown callers. ✅ If you feel threatened, intimidated or suspect criminal activity, contact the police immediately. Reporting InformationIf you have been approached by these individuals, have concerns about doorstep traders, or have witnessed suspicious activity in the Wildwood area, please report it via: 📞 101 – Staffordshire Police (non-emergency) Please share this alert with elderly, vulnerable, or isolated neighbours who may be more susceptible to rogue trader scams.
