🚨 SMART Alert – Water Safety at Chasewater 🚨

We have received a number of reports regarding both youths and adults entering the water and swimming in Chasewater Reservoir.

Whilst the warm weather may make the water look inviting, swimming in open water can be extremely dangerous. Hidden hazards beneath the surface, sudden changes in depth, cold water shock, strong currents and underwater obstacles can quickly place even strong swimmers at risk.

Every year, people lose their lives after entering open water. Cold water shock can affect breathing and movement within seconds, making it difficult to stay afloat or reach safety.

We are asking parents, guardians and residents to speak with children and young people about the dangers of swimming in reservoirs and other open water locations. Please help us keep everyone safe by encouraging the use of supervised swimming facilities instead.

If you witness anyone in difficulty in the water, call 999 immediately and ask for the Fire Service and Ambulance Service. Do not enter the water yourself, as this could put you in danger.
