Did you know that drivers should give cyclists and horse riders at least as much room as they would when overtaking a car? Operation Close Pass is aimed at improving road safety by targeting motorists who fail to leave enough space when passing cyclists and horse riders. Officers may be deployed on bicycles equipped with video cameras to identify unsafe overtaking, with appropriate action taken where necessary. ✅ When passing a cyclist: • Leave at least 1.5 metres at speeds up to 30mph • Leave at least 2 metres at speeds over 30mph ✅ When passing a horse rider: • Pass at no more than 10mph • Leave at least 2 metres of space Remember: 🔹 Cyclists and horse riders may position themselves in the centre of a lane for safety. 🔹 Cyclists may ride two abreast to improve visibility. 🔹 Both cyclists and horse riders may need to avoid hazards or poor road surfaces unexpectedly. 🔹 Avoid sounding your horn, revving your engine, or accelerating harshly when passing horses. A little patience and consideration can make a huge difference and help prevent serious collisions. #OperationClosePass #RoadSafety #ShareTheRoad #ThinkCyclist #HorseRiderSafety #SaferRoads #StaffordshireRoadSafety 🚴♀️🐎🚗 |
