Cold Callers and Bogus Officials

Criminals sometimes pose as utility workers, council representatives, police officers, delivery staff or tradespeople to gain access to homes or personal information.

Most legitimate workers will be happy to verify who they are and why they are visiting.

How can you protect yourself?

✅ Always ask to see identification.

✅ Keep your door locked while you check credentials.

✅ If unsure, contact the organisation directly using a known telephone number.

✅ Never hand over bank details or personal information on the doorstep.

✅ Consider using a door chain or video doorbell.
