Following a recent increase in reports of car meets, car cruising and street racing in the #Stone, #Tittensor and #Trentham areas, Stafford Borough Police would like to remind those attending, organising or participating -(including spectating) in these events that these locations fall within an area covered by a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO).

The PSPO provides officers with a range of powers to tackle anti-social behaviour, including the seizure of items used in the commission of ASB, which can include motor vehicles.
If your vehicle is seen within a designated PSPO area during anti-social vehicle activity, enforcement action may be taken.
Section 59 Powers Have Changed - The law has changed and police now have stronger powers to tackle the anti-social use of vehicles, including car cruising, street racing, off-road bikes, quad bikes and e-scooters.
Previously, officers would generally issue a Section 59 warning before a vehicle could be seized. Under the new legislation, that requirement has been removed, meaning officers can now seize a vehicle immediately where the legal grounds are met.
⚠️ If a vehicle is being driven carelessly or inconsiderately, and is causing, or is likely to cause, alarm, distress or annoyance to members of the public, enforcement action can be taken.
Those attending or participating in car meets, street racing or other anti-social vehicle gatherings should be aware that Staffordshire Police will continue to use all available powers to protect our communities and keep our roads safe.
Any vehicle registrations reported to us, identified through patrol activity, CCTV, dashcam footage or witnessed as being involved in anti-social vehicle use may result in the registered keeper or driver being issued with a Community Protection Warning (CPW).
A CPW places restrictions on future behaviour and outlines the consequences of continued offending. Failure to comply may result in further enforcement action, including the issuance of a Community Protection Notice (CPN). Breaching a CPN can result in prosecution and a fine of up to £2,500.

If you witness anti-social vehicle use, street racing, dangerous driving or car cruising activity, please report it to us. Call 101 for non-emergencies or 999 if a crime is in progress or there is an immediate risk to public safety. Where it is safe to do so, please provide vehicle registration numbers and descriptions, or any other relevant information to assist our enquiries.
