Burglaries/Theft Of Motor Vehicle

Good evening,

There has been an increase in Burglaries where often car keys and the vehicle have been stolen. Offenders have mainly accessed properties through ground floor windows left open.

I wanted to send out some important crime prevention advice. In reviewing incidents both recently and historically, these crime prevention tips, although simple, can be incredibly effective in crime prevention. 

Always lock your vehicle and remove any valuable items when leaving it unoccupied.

Close ground floor windows when leaving the property or when going to bed at night to prevent offenders having easy access.

Always check that your vehicle windows are fully up when left unoccupied - even if you are only leaving it for a few minutes. 

Lock your front door at all times. 

With the good weather, many of us will be spending time in the back garden. If you are using the back garden, ensure your front door is locked and front windows are closed. 

CCTV

CCTV is not only an excellent evidence gathering tool, it is acts as a deterrent. If you have CCTV or are considering it, place it overtly where it can be seen. 

If having CCTV is not currently an option, consider obtaining a ‘decoy camera’. These are cameras that are not operational but still can act as a deterrent. 

Alongside CCTV/ Decoy Cameras – consider placing ‘CCTV in operation sign(s)’ – even if you don’t have a camera. 

Ring doorbells- These are becoming increasing popular and something I have been asked about frequently. Do I recommend one? – Absolutely! Some of the best results we have had from enquiries have come from these cameras.
