Romance fraud occurs when criminals create fake online profiles to build trust and emotional relationships with victims before asking for money or personal information.

Protect yourself by: • Being cautious of people who quickly declare strong feelings online. • Never sending money, gift cards, or sharing bank details with someone you have not met in person. • Being wary of excuses for not meeting face-to-face or video calling. • Checking profile photos using a reverse image search. • Talking to friends or family if you are unsure about an online relationship.
