Something as seemingly minor as damaging a fence, kicking a door, scratching a vehicle or breaking a garden ornament can potentially amount to a criminal offence.

And damage doesn't have to be spectacular to have an impact.

For the person responsible for repairing it, even relatively minor damage can mean time, inconvenience and expense.

💡 Our tip: If you see criminal damage taking place, don't put yourself at risk by confronting those responsible.

If it's happening at the time and there's an immediate threat or danger, contact the police appropriately. If you have information about an offence that has already happened, report it and provide as much detail as possible.

📹 CCTV, doorbell cameras and dashcam footage can also be useful.
