🚨⚠️ SCAM ALERT: Fake "WhatsApp Gold" Messages Circulating ⚠️🚨

Staffordshire Police is urging residents to stay vigilant following reports of scam messages promoting a fake premium service called "WhatsApp Gold". 

📢 Important: There is NO official WhatsApp Gold, VIP, Premium, or Exclusive version of WhatsApp. Any message claiming otherwise is a scam designed to steal your personal information, install malicious software, or trick you into clicking dangerous links. 

🔎 How to Spot a Fake WhatsApp Gold Message

Be suspicious if a message:

🚩 Claims you've been invited to an exclusive or celebrity version of WhatsApp. 

🚩 Promises special features unavailable in the official app. 

🚩 Includes a link to download software from an unfamiliar website instead of the official app stores. 

🚩 Creates urgency with phrases such as:

🚩 Contains spelling mistakes, poor grammar, or unusual wording. 

🚩 Encourages you to forward the message to friends and family. 

🚩 Mentions the infamous "Martinelli" video hoax.

❌ What NOT to Do

🚫 Do NOT click any links.

🚫 Do NOT download any files or apps.

🚫 Do NOT provide personal, banking, or security information.

🚫 Do NOT forward the message to anyone else.

✅ What You SHOULD Do

✅ Delete the message immediately.

✅ Block and report the sender through WhatsApp.

✅ Inform friends, family, neighbours, and colleagues who may have received the same message.

✅ Stay alert for similar scams.

🔐 Top Tips to Stay Safe

📱 Only download WhatsApp from:

🔒 Enable Two-Step Verification in WhatsApp settings. 

🔑 Never share:

⚠️ Avoid unofficial versions such as WhatsApp Gold, WhatsApp Plus, or other modified apps. 

📢 Report Suspicious Messages

📧 Suspicious emails: report@phishing.gov.uk then delete them.

📱 Suspicious text messages: Forward them FREE to 7726 (SPAM) and then delete them.

🌐 Report fraud to Action Fraud: www.actionfraud.police.uk 

☎️ Call Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.

🏦 Contact your bank immediately via 159 if you believe your banking information may be at risk.
