🚔 Vehicle Crime Prevention Advice |

|
Staffordshire Police would like to remind residents to remain vigilant following a recent increase in thefts from motor vehicles in the area. Many vehicle crime offences are opportunistic and can often be prevented by taking a few simple precautions. Criminals will frequently target vehicles where valuables have been left on display or where security measures have been overlooked. Protect Your Vehicle✅ Always lock your vehicle and ensure all windows, doors, and sunroofs are fully secured before leaving it unattended. ✅ Never leave your vehicle with the keys in the ignition or the engine running, even for a short period. ✅ Remove all valuables from your vehicle whenever possible. This includes handbags, wallets, mobile phones, tools, laptops, sat-navs, and charging cables. Even items of little value can attract unwanted attention. ✅ Avoid leaving badges, passes, or permits on display unless absolutely necessary. ✅ If you have a garage or driveway, use it. If this is not possible, try to park in a well-lit, open area where your vehicle can be easily seen. ✅ Consider using additional security measures such as steering wheel locks, lockable storage devices, alarms, or tracking systems. How Offenders Gain EntryA common method used by offenders is to smash a side window to gain quick access to items left inside the vehicle. Most offences occur during the evening and overnight when vehicles are unattended for extended periods. Remember: Lock It, Don't Lose ItBefore leaving your vehicle, take a moment to check that: All doors are locked. All windows are closed. No valuables are visible. Keys are kept secure and out of sight inside your home. By taking these simple precautions, you can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim of vehicle crime. If you witness suspicious activity around vehicles or believe a crime is taking place, please report it to Staffordshire Police. In an emergency, or if a crime is in progress, always call 999. Stay vigilant and help keep our communities safe. Staffordshire Police
