SMART ALERT - Please Don’t Give Cash to People Claiming to Be Homeless We have received reports of individuals approaching members of the public in Burton and surrounding areas claiming to be homeless and asking for money. While many residents are compassionate and want to help, we would advise against giving cash directly to people in the street. Please do not withdraw money from cash points or accompany anyone to an ATM if they ask for financial assistance. Unfortunately, there have been occasions where vulnerable people have been pressured into giving money they cannot afford, and some individuals may not be genuine in their claims. If someone states that they are homeless or in need of support, there are organisations available that can provide professional help, advice and assistance, including: • Housing Options Team through the local council By signposting people to the correct services, you can help ensure they receive the support they genuinely need whilst protecting yourself from potential scams or pressure tactics. If you feel threatened, intimidated, or believe someone is persistently targeting members of the public for money, please report the matter to Staffordshire Police via 101, online, or call 999 in an emergency.
