Good afternoon everyone,
I hope you all are having a good week.
Firstly, a warm welcome to everyone who has recently joined Staffordshire Smart Alert. There are now 1628 persons registered to receive these updates in the Trentham and Hanford area, which is fantastic! Let’s keep it going!!
Should anyone wish to receive these updates, I have put towards the bottom of this e-mail the details of how to do so.
Serial burglar and car thief jailed for more than four years
A serial burglar and car thief who struck across Stoke-on-Trent has been jailed for more than four years. Ibrar Tariq, 31, of Stoke-on-Trent, was sentenced to four years and ten months at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Monday 5th October.
He broke into a house on Kings Road in Hanford and took vehicle keys, bankcards and a purse. He then stole a Ford Fiesta and a Ford Transit belonging to the home owner.
He also attempted a burglary at two homes on Stone Road, Hanford, during the same night.
A few days later, he stole a Vauxhall Insignia from Seaford Street in Shelton.
In August this year, we stopped Tariq while he was driving a Mercedes C220 on cloned plates, which had been stolen from Longton. He tried to drop a bag during his arrest with cocaine inside. We also found an extendable baton in the car, a balaclava and cash.
After being charged with the offences, we built the evidence against Tariq. It left him with little choice but to admit his crimes in court.
He pleaded guilty to three counts of theft of a motor vehicle, one count of burglary, two counts of attempted burglary, two counts of receiving stolen goods, one count of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and one count of possessing a controlled drug of class A- cocaine.
Tariq went on to admit further offences, including four counts of burglary dwelling, six counts of theft of a motor vehicle and thirteen counts of theft from a motor vehicle.
Police Street Surgeries
Apologies if I have missed anyone at the street surgeries this week, on Monday (12/10/26) I was unable to attend Werburgh Dr due to being committed with an incident. I did complete a surgery at Constance Ave, however I realised I attended too early (it’s been one of those weeks). I will be re-doing both of these surgeries next week.
Yesterday (14/10/26) I completed a surgery at The Canal Mews and last week (07/10/26) Jonathan Road.
TONIGHT (15/10/26) there will be a Police Street Surgery at Hazeldene Road 18:45 – 19:00.
Neighbourhood Watch
Over the last few weeks we have had lots of residents registering with many of the Neighbourhood Watch Zones that have been set up- which is fantastic.
On 13/10/26 and 14/10/26 I delivered 150 Neighbourhood Watch welcome letters to addresses in Meadow Lane, Lindum Ave and Chessington Cr.
I am delivering the letters in stages, so if you have yet to have one, I will be continuing delivering them very soon.
Off Road Bikes
I have been made aware that off road bikes are continuing to be seen in the vicinity of the fields near to Chatsworth Park Ave/Cow Lane.
I have recently attended the location, where I came across no issues and these patrols will continue as frequently as possible. If you do encounter any issues with off road bikes, please do report them, by calling 101 (non-emergencies) 999 (emergencies). Non- emergency incidents can also be reported online at www.staffordshire.police.uk Even if you do not have much information to pass, these reports help us to establish the locations where they are seen, along with obtaining key days and times that these incidents occur.
Next week I will be completing a Police Street Surgery at this location – details are below.
Anti-social behaviour
I have been made aware that there have been some issues regarding litter and damage to the grass in and around the green space near to Pennymore Cl/Shillingford Dr. I will be attending this location as frequently as possible to address any issues. I have also spoken to the local councillors to see if a bin could be considered at this location.
Next week I will be completing a Police Street Surgery at this location - details are below.
Reports to the Council – Longton Road
Last week I was made aware of concerns regarding the risk of tripping/falls due to uneven pavement along Longton Road. This may have been already reported, but I have made a report to the Council, which was done via www.stoke.gov.uk
