Community Safety Message - Colder Mornings

As the mornings get colder and frosty weather begins to set in, Staffordshire Police is reminding residents to take a few simple precautions to keep themselves, their vehicles and their property safe.

Never leave your vehicle unattended with the engine running. We know it can be tempting to start your car and leave it running to warm up or defrost your windows, but an unattended vehicle can be an easy target for opportunistic thieves.

Keep your keys with you and never leave your vehicle running while you go back inside your home.

Allow extra time to defrost your vehicle safely. Clear all windows, mirrors and lights before setting off, and never drive until you have a clear view of the road.

Stay alert and look out for one another. If you see any suspicious activity in your neighbourhood, report it to the Police via 101 or online. In an emergency always call 999.

A few extra minutes spent preparing for a cold morning could save you the inconvenience and distress of becoming a victim of crime.
