Some useful tips to help recognise and avoid common distraction burglary techniques.

-Ensure when answering your front door that your back door is locked and secure.

-If you have a chain on your door its always good practice to use it.

-If someone comes to your door claiming to be from a company of some kind, always ask exactly what they are there for and ask to see ID.

-Don't be afraid to call the company to check it is legitimate. If you're unsure then don't allow them in and notify police using 101 if the situation is suspicious or 999 if you feel under any threat.

-Make sure when you leave home that all doors and windows are securely locked. Check that valuables are out of sight and if you have any sheds, garages or outbuildings then check these are locked too.

Stay safe
